Peering into North Korea - The Big Picture - Boston.com

Peering into North Korea - The Big Picture - Boston.com

I wonder how these people can still bear such a regime. It's like a voluntary slavery, and can't be pitied. Even at the border they must be seeing how Chinese towns/cities are changing. And what they will think when one day (surely it will happen) they will get to see how different South Korea has become? Will these two countries with same nation be able to unify at all even if they get such a chance? We have to wait and see.

North Korea documentary

Shane Smith from VBS.TV took a very interesting documentary about his trip to North Korea. I've seen few other good documentaries about N.Korea before. Very eye-opening, and it gave some hints of how the world used to see us (when we were part of Soviet Union) and how Soviet Union was trying to be seen to the world. And how, in fact, North Korean people believe (or were made to believe) that how great is their nation. I've been in similar situation, at least I saw the final days of such regime myself and I was just old enough (8-9 years old) at that time to realize that how great Soviet Union is and how cruel is the world outside. Till the day when my father told me that there's no more Soviet Union...

Anyway, watch this episode from this documentary. In this episode, Shane goes (or to put it more precise, he is "taken" there by his "tour guides") to RÅngrado May First Stadium that has 150,000 seat capacity. There he watches that famous North Korean gymnastic and artistic show performed by 100,000 people.

Watch all episodes at www.vbs.tv.

I'm curious myself about this country, and I'll definitely look for more watching and reading about it. I'll post interesting stuff here.
