SkyEurope madness

Week after week they ran campaigns and announced 9 Euro or 19 Euro tickets to many destinations in Europe. I remember that on their web-site they offered daily(!) flights to many destinations in Europe for first half of 2009. Obviously, lots of people rushed to book the flight tickets for the cost of a juicy steak at a steakhouse. (how about such perspective? ;))

I personally booked several return flights with them based on what I am planning my trips. But guess what? It seems like SkyEurope did some miscalculations either by hoping too much on tourism boom in the period of crisis, or relying on the fact that low price tickets would be sold out immediately. Or maybe they are going bankrupt... or from what I heard, they were leasing planes from other companies for their flights and that now they lost those planes as well... Whatever is the true reason, company screwed up their recent promotional campaigns and most likely it will lead to loss of positive reputation it had so far. As a result, me and many of my friends started to receive cancellation emails for some of the flights, and we had to rebook them for the following or previous days. And it has been happening for the last few days. As an excuse they wrote us that it was due to the harmonization of their route network... They either offer rebooking or refund, but it is very hard to reach their agents by phone! ( I managed that after several trials and long waiting) I guess you get what you paid for; low prices for unreliable and low services.

I will personally think twice now before I book a flight with them. So far I had enjoyed their flight services, but I don't want my trip plans to suffer from such cancellations.

Strange, for my story is quite different,

I have booked for the promotional fares of SkyEurope several times. In fact tens of times. Nearly in every one The flight was more than smooth and normal. The cabin attendants very friendly. The cabin interior very well maintained. The prices for food served, quite inexpensive. The flight itself very good due to well-trained pilots. Punctuality was certainly above average. I have many complaints with other low cost airlines, my complaints with SkyEurope are very few.

I am very much satisfied of SkyEurope. I was lucky to book many more flights in the future at rock-bottom prices. I have heard rumors that it will not fulfill its obligations to passengers. Fortunately I did not listen. In consequence I have booked with them and have saved possibly thousands of EUR. I will gladly book again with them, when I will need a flight.

Possibly is that some people, are trying to defame this fine airline. Just a possibility.

dear anonym,

thanks for your comments, I understand your point as well. I felt the same way till we get these recent issues with cancellations and rebookings. What I wrote above is my own experience and some of my friends'. As I said in my last sentence, I've enjoyed their services so far. But I didn't like the way they decided to "harmonize their routes" and cancel the flights right after the several promotional ticket campaigns...

Well, I just hope that they'll not put people into such situation again.

Or you can buy tickets from Air France instead, for example, the result is for you the same: Flight canceled (this time because of strike)only you had to invest a bit more...

I am too spoilt with low cost airlines, so I'd not buy any tickets from major airlines for the flights inside the continent.
