I met people from Kyrgyzstan in Taipei

It was so interesting to meet own kyrgyz people in Taiwan and talk with them in Kyrgyz. I felt like in Kyrgyzstan during the time I spent with them. They arrived for 3 months for some courses, there are 3 married couples, and 2 of them have little kids too. We spent some time around SunYatSen memorial hall, then went to their friend's house, after that for seafood hot-pot dinner.

new sport that I started to love

Last weekend we went to Taipei Arena for skating. It didn't take much too long before I started to skate on the ice, was easy to learn and more fun than I always expected. Basic 2 rules is to learn how to walk and stop, rest you can figure out yourself :). Will go there on my first free weekend.

Well, it was my first session, I had to wear a helmet, just in case...

run, birds are coming!

need holiday soon...

tired from working, haven't had proper holiday for long time. it is also raining and cold in taipei these days. i missed the sun, i missed the sand, i missed the blue sea, and a company of cool n funky "mafiosas". want to go back to redang... want to get out of taipei...

"kyrgyz" of Taiwan ;)

motorbikes of taiwan

simply everywhere! on the road, on the pedestrian walks, on sidewalks, in front of office, etc... taiwan produces its own motorbikes, and they are cheap here, also the fact that it is so easy to use it makes it more popular among all generations. and it is very convenient to use it in a city like taipei. yet I can still see many old uncles n aunties riding a bicycle :). the fact i dont like is the way they drive the motorbikes, just a single example is that when you get off the bus you have a chance to be hit by a motorbike which is bypassing bus from the bus stop side! or the fact that they drive in pavements... worse is that they don't use their horn at all, and always expect you to give them a way on the pedestrian roads. yet taiwanese are very peaceful nation, and I admire it. if i would stay longer, i'd get one motorbike too :p.

i like to take photos of little kids, the most innocent and sweet things in the world. it is amazing to watch them exploring our dirty world, wondering...
above photo I took in Danshui, kid in his daddy's jacket :).

photo i wanted to share, i took it last year in bukit timah in singapore. dirty little ape messing on bmw.
thankful for God for everything I was given
many things I took for granted
more lucky I was than many others
I tried hard, studied hard, wanted a lot
I won a lot, I lost a lot, I won more
one door closes for more to be opened
for me it is just to knock on the next door
chase my chance, chase my luck, give a fight
those common values that cleaned my way
whenever I lost them, I was lost
whenever I held them, I reached the end
I have to say that I will try again
coz today is my day...

FIFA website was hacked by Turkish hackers

After recent tension in play-off games between Turkey n Switzerland, and after some referee mistakes and some media's efforts to exaggerate events, it spread out of sports from fights to hacking FIFA web-sites. Picture is taken from http://shiftdelete.net/site/content/view/393/1/, here you can find more pictures and info about this hack.

Shut up, Blatter!

So ugly when politics enter the sports, turns it into dirty fight. It started with Swiss media after Switzerland and Turkey were to play for in a play-off for world cup.

Swiss media's efforts on creating tension beforethe game gave efforts, and the game started with whole Swiss stadium whistling when Turkey hymn was playing, so ugly! Everybody knows that
Turkey is much more quality team than Swiss team. Turkey played badly there, not their usual performance, they lost 2-0, and maybe affected by things happened there, maybe not. After the fame, their security
guards and players insulted Turkey coach, and beat goalkeeper Volkan, and created mess in the tunnel too.
After 4 days Swiss team is arriving to Istanbul. You will get what you give. They were kept waiting in airport for 2 hours, and were met by Turkish fans who threw eggs to their bus (you asked for it!).
Before the game whole Turkey stadium was whistling when Swiss hymn was playing, I am sure that Swiss were not surprised as they knew it will come when they did the same. Well, game started with a big tension in some Turkish players, and coz of one defender's mistake,
Swiss got free penalty kick in 1st minute. and in aggregate Turkey was 3-0 down. But they showed real attitude, and played their quality game and managed to score 4 goals! The game was totally on Swiss side, Tukey pressing n dominating the game.
There was some tension in the game too. Swiss team was in panick and were busy trying to keep ball away. I was proud the way Turkey played. Unfortunately, near to end of game Turkish player passed to Swiss player by mistake and Swiss player was left one-to-one with goalkeeper.
Game finished 4:2, Turkey won, but in aggregate it was 4:4, and Swiss team qualified due to scored away goals. For this sportive success, congratulations for Switzerland!
Now it is possible to imagine emotions of players just after the game, it is not clear who started the fight, Turkish media says it is Swiss player Huggel who kicked Turkish coach assistant (below is the picture), Swiss media says it is Turkish players, also that security guards beat some Swiss players.

Well, again, Turkey players were treated the same way in Switzerland, whole turkey knows that as well as security guards, and if you are Swiss and trying to fight with Turkish in Turkey then you'll definitely be beaten up with anyone there. I guess, if I was a security guard there, with all those emotions and pity that my team lost,
and with seeing Swiss players still jumping to fight, I would also beat them. coz they were simply asking for it. you are away from home, and behave like a guest, visitor then. Fot this events, shame on both sides who were involved.
It is ugly, for things happened at both sides, both are guilty in this way, if punished then both should be given punishment.
FIFA president Blatter, of Swiss nationality, claimed that he will be strict and punishments can go upto disqualification from tournaments and was pointing at Turkey, without waiting for referee's and observers' reports, and FIFA (and its president) has no right to dictate punishments, they can suggest to FIFA Discipline Committee who will decide after hearing all witnesses and reading all official reports.
Yet, Blatter started to threaten long before the decision. He says he will not act as Swiss, but as FIFA president... We'll see... Not too long ago, FIFA made terrible mistake as a result of which Uzbekistan lost his advantage to qualify. Briefly, in first game Uzbekistan was leading 1:0, and they earned penalty kick in 1st half time. They scored. Referee accepted the goal, but after Bahrain player's protest and after talking ot side referee that another Uzbek player ran into box before penalty was kicked, he cancelled the goal. This is normal in football, but then the penalty is always repeated in this situation. The referee wanted to repeat it, but after some protest by Bahrain players, he even cancelled penalty kick! and instead he decided that actually that was a foul by Uzbek players and gave foul kick to Bahrain team!!! Such a stupid decision!
Game ended 1:0, whereas it should have been 2:0 in the first half time. Uzbek Football Federation sent report and complained to FIFA, instead of giving that goal to Uzbekistan, or automatically giving them 3:0 win, or repeating game from that penalty minute with a penalty (these are expected fair decisions normally), FIFA even cancelled their first goal and decided that match will be repeated from the beginning! Some say politics are not in football, but for some people in FIFA, rich Bahrain sheikhs are somehow more close than Uzbeks... So ugly...
As a result Uzbekistan played 1:1 at home and 0:0 in nbahrain, they lost from away goals too.
i can not take in these things as a person who hates politics in football, and as two brother nations are affected from it.
Now, it is fair to expect FIFA will give punishments to all guilty ones, not only turkish side. Let's see...
Another funny truth about Blatter who suggested woman football team players should wear sexy shorts, here.

another winter without snow?

dude, I really missed the snow! real winter with lots of snow around, feeling cold air in warm clothes and appreciating true value of hot black tea in campus canteens... best thing is to enjoy skiing or just sliding down the hill on a plastic bag if your shoe bottoms are not flat enough, or snow ball fights or snow ball tortures for girls (i remember when we used to wait for girls to come out of school after the lessons with load of snow balls ready to attack :))), or just watching the falling snow particles and try to catch them with your mouth (do you know that every snow particle is of different pattern? just like fingerprints...), and of coz snow hockey games! wooden hockey sticks usually wouldn't last long in clashes, so we used to make them from aluminiums... that's what I call a winter...
besides the fake snow in Snow City in Singapore (below pic), I haven't felt it almost for 2 years now.

halloween (glance at that funky night)

was one of the best parties I attended here in Taiwan, and many trainees n aiesecers turned out that night. it was organized jointly by aiesec n trinity language school. my idea was to be a devil in a suit, idea was good n result was not that good, so after a while i took off my mask. besides Yuup girls were putting artistic make-up on everybody. I regret that I didn't hang out more with aiesecers n trainees, definitely, life seems more fun when you are part of this fun group. as we went there with usual expectation of aiesec parties, it was a nice surprise to see so many pretty taiwanese girls; trinity girls, yuup girls n aiesecers. (i repeat my claim that Taiwan has one of the most prettiest girls in asia) Met some new cool friends/aiesecers like Luiz, Josephine, Kelsey, Christine, Jay, Carla, etc. another funny part was that we went in groups for "trick or treat" to some restaurants n taiwan beer fabric. below some pictures from that night (you can find more in my album);

shots from my finest trip in taiwan

today i received email from Karen (I met her n her friends during my east coast trip) who sent me the photo she took when i was lying on the stone just near the pool near Buiyang waterfall. that was one fun experience.

new boeing, new engine, new record!

Boeing's long range jet 777-200LR broke world record in longest non-stop flight for passenger carrier jets. To learn more about this new jetn its engine - http://www.777.newairplane.com.
My longest non-stop flight was between Istanbul and Bangkok which took nearly 10 hours as I remember. That was on Airbus A340. Another long flight was on Boeing 777-400 from Singapore to Dubai, which took around 9 hours. I guess in a few years time, we won't need to transit in midway at all. I look forward on stepping aboard of this 777-200 LR, and also on Airbus A380.
Yesterday, I was looking for career opportunities in some big airline companies as an computer engineer, but not many possibilites for me there. Would be nice to airplane realted IT projects, I'd love it.

A Boeing Co. jet arrived in London from Hong Kong on Thursday after 22 hours and 43 minutes in the air, breaking the record for the longest nonstop flight by a commercial jet.
The 777-200LR Worldliner -- one of Boeing's newest planes -- touched down shortly after 1 p.m. (1300 GMT) at London's Heathrow Airport after a journey of more than 18,662 kilometers (11,664 miles). more

rice, rice, rice...

so sick of eating rice for 7 months, also sick of noodles...
as I can't eat pork or anything with pork, Taiwan is not the best place for me in terms of food. Pork is consumed a lot, a lot here, almost in 70%-80% of dishes. Taiwan is popular for its delicacies, unfortunately not for me. So I have been eating 7-8 type dishes for past 7 months, mainly it is either rice with chicken/fish and some green veggies (no potato here, almost no tomato too, but some green grass, leaves, etc.), or it is beef noodles or dumplings. Not very healthy neither very tasty (especially after eating them so often). Also due to bird flu alert in this region, I prefer not to eat chicken anymore too. I don't like tofu and sick of rice n noodles. In that terms, I missed kyrgyz food, Turksh food and food in Singapore. During lunch time, I gaze around in this industrial part of city in search for something attractive to eat... I know that it won't last long now.

morning at C.K.S.

Chiang Kai Shek (C.K.S.) Memorial Hall is one of my favourite spots in Taipei. Wide open area, windy, quiet corner in the city, and has 3 beautiful buildings inside; maouseleum, theatre and museum.
After Halloween party last week, we went to karaoke till morning, then I went to CKS memorial hall in the morning as it was on my way home. Also I wanted to see morning tai chi session there.

November 09, 2005

last weekend i went to zoo with Diego, Evgeny, Teemu, Arif n Heather. Zoo itself doesn't give you much to see, but as we have heard that they have panda(!) there, that was the main attraction I was looking forward to see. No pandas there... Yet I managed to catch an interesting view at chimpanzee cage; bored chimpanzees were sitting as a group and observing people :). it comes to "who is watching whom?".

...after such long stressful n disturbing silence after storm, i decided to end it and make things better, to make things better before i leave, to relief myself and others... with clear head and good intentions... but things turn out different even if you go with divine thoughts, evil can catch you as you just overtook the anger and evil and just in front of it, things turned out different and i did a big mistake, and feeling guilty now... what i went with, what i returned with... noone deserved it...

friends...

what friend is a friend if not open and honest to you,
what friend is a friend if not listens to you first,
what friend is a friend if not helps to you to get through,
what friend is a friend if not stays as a friend after everything...

some claim themselvex as friends, some are friends coz they are friends of your friends, or friends in good days, or friends of dark days as they have similar problems, or friends in purpose, or friends by circumstances, or temporary friends, etc. We choose them or they choose us, those built on support, honesty and understanding will remain for long time, those who were on purpose will run from you hiding their tails whenever you fall out of purpose or smallest break will make them hide. it is very confusing to say who is who, as we say "any crime will be known in 40 years", one day their mask falls out. at the same time, there are those who will be fair with you under any circumstances and support you with advices and couple of good worrds even if you have made big mistakes. friends can forgive. those who are eager to execute you, to put behind the door for your mistake or fault, those are cheap friends, and it doesn't worth to regret losing them. respect to those, who claims to be a friend, and stays beside you no matter what happens and offers a hand. the rest is useless bunch of crowd around you who just consumes your oxygen...

Aitinar maarek bolsun!

End of Ramadan... end of fasting period, and tomorrow is our religious holiday - Ramadan Eid! I wish all my best wishes to my muslim brothers n sisters and may Allah(c.c.) accept all your fastings and prayers, and may our world will have a year without disasters in coming year... amin.
I have been fasting for 1 month, and from tomorrow I will start to enjoy breakfasts and lunches again. :) and on the other side, my stomach and digestion system is much more cleaned up and cured after 1 month long fasting, which has a nice benefit like a healthy diet. It's pity that I can't feel that holy atmosohere here away from my home, and second home - Ankara. Last year I spent month Ramadan in Singapore, this year it was in Taipei, where will it be next year? I am already getting excited... :).

"pervim delom samolety, nu a devushki potom"

"pervim delom samolety, nu a devushki potom" ("first comes planes, then girls...", taken from pilot's song). I am a big plane fan, all kind of planes; from unmanned combat vehicles to huge passenger planes. yet my favourite is Boening-747 400, beautiful sky ship.
My big interest in planes was born with the book I read when i was about 10 years old, it was about Ivan Kojedub, 3-time USSR Hero medal holder, who destroyed 63 enemy planes during WWII. The book was about his pilot life and fighting scenes. It started with military fighter planes, then grew to overall plane love.
anyways, few months ago there was a film called "Stealth" in cinemas (anyone watched it?). Besides cool graphics, film is full of cool showdown of UCWVs (unmanned combat war vehicles, planes controlled by computer itself). I really wonder if one day this wil come true and machines replace humans in wars, deciding their targets and enemies, and evetually getting out of human control. although it seems highly impossible, there are already UCWVs in testing (and maybe in usage?).
Below are some cool photos of stealth planes and UCWV EDI (extreme deep invader) "Eddie";

for some Stealth action, try this online short game Steath Invader:

Above photo was taken in front of Longshan Temple in Taipei. It is rare to see a caucasian monk in Taiwan, and collecting money for the temple. this photo immediately brought a question in my head "what is the conversion rate to Buddhism? or what is the conversion/growth rates between the religions in general?...". Quick googling brought me to http://www.religioustolerance.org, where I found approximated rates n population info;

Religion Date Founded Sacred Texts Membership 5 % of World 6
